15. Hanzo
Hanzo is a mobile and agile character that has the potential to completely switch a match on its head. If your team has a Hanzo that’s playing well, things will almost always go your way. His potential for one-hit kills, along with his powerful ultimate, make him an incredibly useful and popular character, particularly in a defensive role.
14. Roadhog
Roadhog is growing in popularity within the pro gamer scene, and for good reason. With enough practice, his combination of close-quarter combat and devastating one-hit shotgun blasts can prove to be intensely beneficial to any team. His ultimate, while somewhat erratic, is powerful and devastating. He’s especially effective against more agile and weak characters, such as Hanzo, Sombra and Mercy.
13. Pharah
Pharah is a tough character to appreciate and be good at. If you understand and appreciate the fundamentals, she acts as a superb decoy for your team. Keep her in the air for long periods, and the enemy team will focus their fire on her from below. This benefits Pharah’s team, as they now have easy line-of-sight to enemies that are focusing on a flying godess. Throw in a devastating ultimate and it’s no surprise that she’s as popular among the Overwatch community as she is.
12. Reinhardt
Reinhardt simply isn’t used enough, especially on attack. It doesn’t help that players don’t quite seem to know how to best utilise him whenever a teammate is using him. His shield is there to protect teammates, and on attack this can prove to be a fantastic tactic while slowly moving towards or pushing the objective. He is surprisingly powerful in combat, too, pending you’re accurate and cautious to avoid getting into a firefight with multiple enemies. Every team needs a Reinhardt.
11. McCree
He’s been the brunt of everyone’s Overwatch jokes, but there’s nothing funny about McCree’s skills. He’s somewhat of a quasi-attack-sniper character, with a single-shot revolver that doubles as a devastating semi-auto weapon on demand. Combine his abilities to disorientate enemies and take out most with an effective execution of fan the hammer. He’s been nerfed since launch — he could too easily take out tanks — but he’s still a very popular and useful character on both defense and attack.
