EA SPORTS FC 27’s first gameplay balance patch, Title Update 1.2.0, is due in mid-November. EA confirmed five changes in its October Gameplay Developer Notes on 28 October: fullback positioning, offside awareness, attacking AI runs, goals from kick-off, and player switching on loose balls. There’s no exact release date yet. EA describes the changes as subtle and targeted rather than an overhaul.
The five changes in Title Update 1.2.0
| Area | What EA is changing | What you should notice |
|---|---|---|
| Fullback positioning | Fullbacks will hold the defensive line more consistently instead of dropping too deep | Fewer attackers played onside behind your back line |
| Offside awareness | Attacking AI will be better at staying onside | Fewer runs wasted by teammates drifting offside |
| Attacking AI | Smarter supporting runs and better use of space around the box | More passing options in the final third |
| Kick-off goals | Defending at kick-off is being adjusted to reduce goals straight from the restart | Fewer cheap goals seconds after conceding |
| Player switching | Auto-switching should pick the right player more often after slide tackles, headed passes and missed shots | Less time controlling the wrong defender in scrambles |
Why it took a month
This is a deliberate change of approach. Before launch, EA said it would avoid significant gameplay balance changes in early title updates so players had time to learn the new mechanics. It kept to that: every update so far, including Title Update 1.1.0 on 27 October, contained bug fixes and quality-of-life changes only.
EA also shared what its match data showed after the first month. Players are taking fewer shots but scoring a higher share of them, completing more of their passes and winning more tackles. Win rates are spread evenly across formations, which EA presents as a sign that no single tactic dominates.
What isn’t changing yet
The notes also list areas EA is still looking at without committing to a change, including very high defensive lines and goalkeeper positioning. These aren’t part of 1.2.0, and EA hasn’t given a timeline for them. A lot of the community reaction has focused on what the patch leaves alone, so if your main complaint is something outside the five areas above, don’t expect this update to fix it.
Should you change your tactics?
Not before the patch lands. The fullback and kick-off changes are the two most likely to affect how you set up. If you defend with very attacking fullbacks, they may start holding their position better, and teams that score from kick-off routines will lose some of that. Wait for the full patch notes, which EA usually publishes on release day.
If you play Clubs, our striker and CDM build guides cover the Archetype reset EA made on 22 October, which affects your Pro more than this patch will.
We’ll update this article when EA confirms the release date and publishes the full Title Update 1.2.0 notes.
