Is GTA 6 on Xbox Cloud Gaming? What Is Confirmed After Xbox’s Denial

Will GTA 6 be on Xbox Cloud Gaming? Possibly on Xbox consoles, but not on PC, and not exclusively. That is what is left after a week of conflicting reports, five weeks before GTA 6 launches on November 19.

What happened

On October 6, The Verge reported that Xbox CEO Asha Sharma had told employees at an internal town hall that Microsoft planned to do something around GTA 6 that no other platform holder was doing. According to the report’s sources, that meant Xbox Cloud Gaming had secured exclusive rights to stream the game.

That set off a wave of excitement among PC players. Xbox Cloud Gaming runs in a browser and on PCs, so exclusive streaming rights looked like a way to play GTA 6 on PC without waiting for a port that Rockstar has not even announced.

The next day, Xbox chief strategy officer Matthew Ball shut that down. He said Xbox was looking forward to launching GTA 6 on Xbox on November 19, but that the game will not be streaming exclusively or to PC.

What is actually confirmed

The Verge corrected its story but stood by the core of it: that Xbox has a deal to stream GTA 6 through Xbox Cloud Gaming from launch. It now says access looks limited to Xbox consoles. Ball’s statement denied exclusivity and PC streaming, but did not deny a deal of some kind.

Why it matters for PC players

For now, there is no way to play GTA 6 on PC at launch, by cloud or otherwise. Rockstar has announced the game for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only, and there is still no PC version. If you are hoping for one, our look at GTA 6 performance on consoles covers what the current versions can do.

The cloud gaming catch

Even if GTA 6 does stream on Xbox, cloud gaming is changing at the same time. From November, Game Pass plans move to monthly cloud gaming limits: 15 hours on Ultimate, 10 on Premium and 5 on Essential, with extra hours available to buy. GTA 6 is not a Game Pass game, so streaming it would also need a copy of the game. A world as big as Leonida would eat 15 hours quickly.
