Grand Theft Auto 6 might be Rockstar’s biggest technical and marketing push yet, and if recent leaks are accurate, it’s being fine-tuned to squeeze every drop of performance from Sony’s upcoming PlayStation 5 Pro. The bad news? Xbox Series X|S owners may be left behind, with the game potentially capped at 30 frames per second on Microsoft’s consoles.
Rockstar and Sony: A high-octane collaboration, with no Xbox in sight
According to credible industry leaker DetectiveSeeds, Sony engineers are working directly with Rockstar Games to optimize GTA 6 specifically for the PS5 Pro. The goal? Delivering a consistent 60FPS across multiple graphical modes, something even the base PS5 reportedly can’t achieve.

“GTA 6 has been, and continues to hit 60fps while being optimised for the PS5 Pro on multiple graphical settings,” said DetectiveSeeds, pointing to close technical coordination between the two giants.
This isn’t just about hardware power: it’s a strategic partnership. A marketing deal between Sony and Rockstar appears to be fuelling this level of deep collaboration, positioning the PS5 Pro as the “best place to play” GTA 6.
GTA 6 PS5 Pro Bundles incoming, but nothing for Xbox (yet)
DetectiveSeeds also hinted at multiple PS5 Pro hardware bundles launching alongside GTA 6, potentially including limited-edition consoles, themed controllers, and exclusive in-game bonuses.
“The Rockstar/PlayStation marketing deal is what’s allowing, and encouraging this collaboration on optimisation. Should see several GTA6/PS bundles in the next marketing push.”
So far, there’s been no indication of any equivalent support or special editions planned for Xbox. No optimisation mentions, no bundles, no cross-brand technical integration. Just silence: a concerning sign for Series X|S players hoping for parity.
Sony’s 2026 software update will target GTA 6 (Xbox left out again?)
Sony engineers are reportedly also preparing a major system software update for May 2026, likely to coincide with GTA 6’s launch. This update could help maximise performance gains, including 60FPS consistency on PS5 Pro.
There’s no word on whether Xbox will receive similar backend support. Microsoft’s consoles are technically capable, but without Rockstar or platform-level optimisation, they may not fully benefit from GTA 6’s performance potential.
Base PS5 may be locked at 30FPS, just like Xbox
While PS5 Pro players may enjoy silky-smooth gameplay, standard PS5 and Xbox Series X|S players could be stuck with 30FPS at launch. According to leaks, the base PS5 is not yet hitting 60FPS, and there’s been no mention of Xbox-specific performance targets whatsoever.

If you’re on Xbox Series X, the lack of optimisation talk raises questions: will it perform on par with the base PS5, or worse?
GTA 6 release date still aiming for May 2026
Rockstar has yet to officially revise its internal timeline. As it stands, GTA 6 is expected to launch on May 26, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. A PC release will follow, though no date has been confirmed.
No Rockstar or Sony confirmation (yet), but Xbox absence speaks volumes
While none of this is officially confirmed, DetectiveSeeds has a proven track record (including accurate leaks about the Oblivion Remaster). Still, the consistent lack of Xbox mentions across multiple reports is hard to ignore.
If you’re an Xbox player hoping for feature parity or marketing support, now might be the time to manage expectations, or start saving for a PS5 Pro.
A next-gen power play that favours PlayStation
Whether you’re here for Vice City chaos or contemplating a hardware upgrade, one thing’s clear: GTA 6’s launch is shaping up to heavily favor Sony’s ecosystem. From performance optimization to hardware bundles, PS5 Pro is getting the red-carpet treatment, and Xbox players may have to settle for the base experience.
Unless Microsoft and Rockstar reveal their own plans, Series X|S owners could miss out on the smoothest way to play what may be the biggest release of the decade.

Can we not turn every tech leak into a console war? If it’s real, great. If not, let’s just wait for the actual Digital Foundry breakdown.

I’ll believe this “60FPS” stuff when I see it. Rockstar barely managed stable framerates in GTA 5. PS5 Pro or not, I’m skeptical.

@4kStillMatters, Fair. But if they’re optimizing before launch instead of patching after, that’s at least a good sign.

Any confirmation from Rockstar yet? This is still rumor mill stuff. Don’t get too hyped until they show official specs.

Honestly, I’d take a stable 30FPS on all platforms if it meant fewer bugs and better story delivery. Smooth gameplay matters more than frame count.

As an Xbox player, this is frustrating. I bought Series X expecting multiplatform games to perform better. Guess I was wrong.

@SeriesSufferer, Same boat. At this point, Microsoft needs to do something aggressive to stay relevant for GTA 6.
