Young Kobe is the easiest of NBA 2K27’s elite scoring GOAT Builds to get, and for most players he’s worth the climb. He unlocks at Level 37 of the free Season 2 rewards track, so you earn him by playing rather than by grinding REP. In return you get a 6’6” shooting guard who dunks like Michael Jordan but can’t shoot a reliable three.
How to unlock Young Kobe
2K’s Season 2 Courtside Report lists the Young Kobe GOAT Build as the Level 37 reward on the Season 2 track. He’s on the free track, not the paid Pro Pass. Season XP from The City, MyCAREER and MyTEAM all count toward it.
Three levels later, Level 40 gives you a +1 Cap Breaker, so the last stretch of the track pays out twice for this build. Season progress resets when Season 2 ends, and 2K hasn’t published that date yet, so don’t leave the last few levels until the final week.

Ratings at 99 overall, as players report them from the in-game builder. Two separate community databases list identical numbers. The second column is the ceiling with every available Cap Breaker spent on that attribute.

What he does well, and the problem
This version of Kobe is the athlete, not the late-career shooter. A 99 Driving Dunk, 95 Vertical and 93 Driving Layup make him one of the best finishers among the 18 GOAT Builds, and his ratings reach Hall of Fame on four badges: Aerial Wizard, Posterizer, Lightning Launch and Pogo Stick. All four are about getting to the rim and finishing above it.
The problem is the jump shot. His Three-Point Shot is 75, and the attribute only has five Cap Breaker slots worth a point each, so 80 is as far as it goes. Mid-Range is better at 87, and his best shooting badge is Gold Static Middy. Defenders will go under screens against him, and nothing you change on this build fixes that.
Players report his jump shot release as quick. 2K hasn’t confirmed release speeds for GOAT Builds, and the jumper itself is locked either way, so try it in practice before you commit Cap Breakers.
Kobe or Jordan?
Both are 6’6” shooting guards with a 6’11” wingspan and a 99 Driving Dunk, so the comparison is unavoidable.

| Unlock | Season Level 37 (free track) | REP Elite VIII |
On paper Jordan is the better player. He’s stronger on defense and a better passer, and Kobe only edges him on the three and on Strength. But Jordan sits at REP Elite VIII, which most players won’t reach this season, while anyone who plays regularly will hit Season Level 37. If you’re not grinding REP, Kobe gives you most of Jordan’s scoring for a fraction of the effort.
Where to spend Cap Breakers
Cap Breakers are permanent and capped at five per attribute, and on Kobe they’re worth very different amounts. Shooting is a poor use of them: Three-Point, Mid-Range and Perimeter Defense each gain one point per Cap Breaker.
The best returns are on his weaknesses inside. Interior Defense gains 12 from the first Cap Breaker and 9 from the second, taking it from 40 to 61, which matters when a 6’6” guard gets switched onto bigs. Strength has just two slots that together add 10 (65 to 75), and that helps a build whose whole game is finishing through contact. Block gains 8 from its first slot. Free Throw is the best long-term offensive spend, with 21 points available across five slots for a player who will spend the game drawing fouls.
The Level 40 Cap Breaker arrives right after you unlock him, so it’s a natural first spend on Interior Defense or Strength.
Is he worth it?
Yes, if you play downhill and want a two-way slasher without the REP grind. No, if your team needs a floor spacer: an 80 three at best won’t pull a defender out to the line. For comparison, the Derrick Rose GOAT Build is even faster but sits behind REP Elite VIII.
Ratings reflect NBA 2K27 Season 2 as reported in the in-game builder in October 2026. 2K can retune GOAT Builds in a later patch.
