It’s been rumoured for weeks but we now essentially have concrete confirmation about the much-hyped Overwatch Anniversary Event.
Following on from the super successful shenanigans of the Uprising event, Blizzard is set to celebrate Overwatch‘s one-year anniversary with a themed event.
Word of an Anniversary event first surfaced last week, when a crafty YouTuber found files for “Event_6” hidden within the latest PTR update.
Today, in much the same way that Uprising was leaked, we have found details about said event via the actual Xbox store, caught by the folks over at True Achievements.
Celebrate Overwatch’s anniversary with a batch of commemorative treats for your heroes during a new event: Overwatch Anniversary! Kick off the celebration with a bang by picking up Anniversary Loot Boxes. Every Loot Box contains up to four cosmetic items, including at least one Anniversary Skin, Spray, Highlight Intro, Emote, Victory Pose, Player Icon, or Voice Line. More than 100 Anniversary goodies are waiting for you! If your Anniversary Loot Box contains an item that is already in your collection, you will instead receive in-game Credits that you can use to acquire many customization options. Anniversary Loot Boxes are available to purchase or earn in-game until June 5, 2017.
If the event ends on June 5, that puts the start date at or around May 15-16, as every Overwatch event thus far has lasted for three weeks.
The new loot may also include new Symmetra Legendary skins, which Blizzard promised would please fans of the under appreciated Support hero.
While we haven’t heard official word from Blizzard regarding the Anniversary event, the company all but confirmed it on Twitter but saying a start date hadn’t been set yet. It seems like they’ve just accepted that it’s been leaked.
What’s more, the launch of the Anniversary event would coincide with any public launch of the recent PTR update that would see nerfs for Reinhardt, Soldier and Orisa, and buffs for Genji and Hanzo.
