The folks over at Rockstar Intel detailed the leak, via GTA Forums, which outlines some of the changes and improvements we can expect in the GTA Remastered Trilogy, with perhaps the most exciting element of the leak being that of plans to bring GTA 5-like gameplay to the classic PS2-era titles.
“Three iconic cities, three epic stories,” the leaked details outline. “Play the genre-defining classics of the original Grand Theft Auto Trilogy: Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas updated for a new generation, now with across-the-board enhancements including brilliant new lighting and environmental upgrades, high-resolution textures, increased draw distances, Grand Theft Auto V-style controls and targeting, and much more, bringing these beloved worlds to life with all new levels of detail.”
While, as with the Achievements, this information is merely rumoured at this point and unlikely to be made official until closer to release, it does align with past leaks.
There were claims last month that the trilogy’s re-release would be delayed into 2022 so as to not clash with the forthcoming release of GTA V on Xbox Series X and Series S. Thankfully, that rumour has been squashed, with reports from August appear to be fairly accurate.
The report of a GTA Trilogy remaster first came by way of Kotaku, which claimed that Rockstar Games sources had told them that work was currently underway to bring all three games to Xbox Series X and Series S, PS4, PS5, PC, Google Stadia, PC, and Nintendo Switch. That of course turned out to be true.
According to Kotaku’s report, all three games are being remastered using Unreal Engine, with a blend of “new and old graphics”. The source claimed to have said that the remastered effort looks like a “heavily-modded version of a classic GTA title”, which would explain why Rockstar had been so quick to lockdown any community mods recently.
The addition of the GTA V-like gameplay, combined with graphical enhancements within Unreal Engine 5, certainly propel the GTA Remastered Trilogy firmly into the most hyped class to round out 2021.
