After months of teasing and plenty of fan debate, Blizzard has finally lifted the lid off Overwatch‘s 24th hero.

Orisa has been revealed, and is precisely what many of us expected … except she’s a counter to Doomfist, not the actual Doomfist.

The new tank character has a fascinating and deep lore, tying into recent narrative revelations featuring Efi, the 11-year-old robotic engineer.

Efi built Orisa from parts from Numbani’s short-lived OR15 defense robots with the intent to create a robot that would protect the city.

Interestingly, in the reveal trailer we hear that Numbani was attacked by Doomfist, suggesting the Successor is not peaceful and certainly not part of the Overwatch team.

Overwatch fans have correctly predicted that the new character would be a creation of Efi’s, and a new Omnic character seemed certain.

Orisa’s addition also helps diversify a tiring Tank class. Her shields can protect teammates from opposition attacks, while her Supercharger ultimate buffs damage to surrounding allies.

She is primarily a defensive character, helping balance out a Tank class that was struggling for consistency among major D.Va and Roadhog nerfs.

Reinhardt stood as the only true defensive Tank character, so Orisa may prove to offer a nice variety for teams looking to evolve their defensive strategy.

Orisa is playable right now on the Public Test Realm (PTR) for PC players. Click here to find out how to get involved.
