It’s been in production hell for years, but the Uncharted movie appears to be finally on the right track.
Back in October I reported that Stranger Things director Shawn Levy was in line to helm the film adaptation of Naughty Dog’s critically acclaimed action-adventure series.
Levy has a long resume of action films under his belt. Before he dabbed into television with Stranger Things — with which he wrote and directed two episodes — he directed Real Steel and the Night At The Museum trilogy.
It was also reported that the Uncharted film’s most recent script treatment was to be written by Joe Carnahan, who is perhaps best known for the fantastic The Grey and Narc, both of which he wrote and directed.
He was touted as a potential writer-director double for the Uncharted film, but he is now helming Sony’s Bad Boys For Life with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence.
Thankfully, his work with Smith and Lawrence hasn’t interrupted his writing time, and he’s completed the first draft of the Uncharted script.
Taking to Instagram, Carnahan quipped that, “if there’s a more monstrously cool action script in Hollywood right now, I wanna read it, ‘cuz this thing is a BEAST.”
Whoever ends up making the film is under pressure to ensure the final product is in line with the quality set by the source material.
Being a much-loved PlayStation franchise, all eyes will be on the project to ensure it manages and meets fan expectations.
Pressure’s on!
