Take-Two has had a pretty good year. The release of Mafia 3, the continued success of GTA V, the dominance of NBA 2K17, and the safety of Civilization VI have all contributed to that. The fact GTA V continues to stay relevant some three years after release goes to show just how rich and inviting the Take-Two portfolio is.
The company, whose subsidiaries include Rockstar Games and 2K Games, recently held its financial conference call for the quarter ending September 30th, speaking to investors about the company’s future and upcoming projects.
Interestingly, Take-Two spoke briefly about remasters, which, as any gamer would know, seems to be an important piece of the money-making strategy for publishers this generation. Take-Two has seen the release of The Bioshock Collection reignite interest in that franchise, but will we see more beyond that? After all, this is a company whose portfolio features games such as GTA: San Andreas, LA Noire, and the Max Payne series.
An investor put the question to Take-Two, asking about the prospect of future remasters and if the success of The Bioshock Collection had prompted the publisher to consider future project.
“Potentially yes. I mean, every time we have something that goes well or doesn’t go well, it definitely informs our decision making, but we don’t have anything specific to announce as announcements that would come from our labels,” chief executive officer, Strauss Zelnick, said. “The good news is that we have a rich trove of intellectual properties and there are definitely more things that will be brought to the market in the future, but nothing that we would announce on today’s call.”
I think a remaster of LA Noire is long overdue. I know it’s a hard game to love, but it had some strong storytelling, and a really unique and engaging way to tell a story and progress the experience.
Which Take-Two games would you like to see get the remaster treatment?
