FenixBazaar.com – Site Rules

The Fenix Bazaar forums are a public forum. You are able to post as you wish and freely, pending you stay within the rules of the site. It is important that you know these rules so that you can post freely without any issues.

Once you post on the forums or in the comments section, you are agreeing to the rules that we have in place If you break these rules, your account will be punished accordingly.

The Fenix Bazaar forums are monitored constantly by a group of volunteer moderators. Each moderator has control over specific sections of the site, generally one or more Groups. It’s important to note that mods cannot be in every single place at every single moment. If you see someone breaking the rules, you can report it to a mod on any of the Fenix Bazaar forums. If one member breaks the rules and it is not instantly dealt with, it doesn’t mean it is a free-for-all and that you can do that same.

If you wish to make a complaint please contact a moderator or admin. If you have a problem with a moderator, or feel you need more help, please send an email to gaetano[at]Fenix Bazaar.com.

About Fenix Bazaar

Fenix Bazaar hopes to offer an accessible, diverse and engaging social experience of geek culture, built around a central voice and free public discourse.

“Fenix” refers to both the mythological bird (phoenix), and popular game character Marcus Fenix from the Gears of War series.

Marcus Fenix has a strong heart, a powerful voice, and is an empowering warrior.

The Phoenix represents rebirth, rising from the ashes of its predecessor.

The “Fenix” in Fenix Bazaar represents voice, empowerment and response: the enthralling voice and empowerment of Marcus Fenix, and the rising birth of a dissenting voice with the Phoenix.

The “bazaar” in Fenix Bazaar represents the enclosed but welcoming exchange of ideas. The bazaar as we know it in Persian history was an enclosed marketplace where goods and services were exchanged. With Fenix Bazaar, the bazaar represents ideas in exchange of response and engagement.

Spam

Every time you post on the Fenix Bazaar forums your posts must be coherent and relevant to the topic. Posting purely to get your post count up is considered spam. Your posts must contribute something to the topic at hand, otherwise it is considered spam.

Please do not double post unless it is completely necessarily (i.e. you need additional space). If a mod believes you did not need to double post, posting directly after yourself, one of the posts will be removed. You may post after your own comment if more than 10 hours have passed since your last post.

Flaming and Trolling

Posting hate messages and personal attacks will not be tolerated in any form on the Fenix Bazaar Forums, including in the form of video and image content. You must treat all members with respect, even if they have different opinions or beliefs. If you cannot get along with other members, or debate in a civil manner, do not post.

Creating a thread with the sole purpose of generating a negative and aggressive response from one person or a specific group of people is totally unacceptable.

Furthermore, visiting a specific forum for the sole purpose of making your displeasure for the place public is not acceptable.

Mods are members like everyone else and deserve to be treated as such. Abusing moderators individually or as a collective is not acceptable and will be dealt with as any other flaming case. It also applies in reverse. Moderators are members and must follow the same rules. If you feel a mod has infringed on a rule or treated you unfairly, do not retaliate, instead contact another mod privately.

Explicit content including pornography

Any content deemed to be of an explicit nature is not tolerated in any forum on the Fenix Bazaar forums. This includes pornography in the form of images, videos or links to XXX material, as well as naming pornography sites or publications.

This is not restricted to content in its simplest form. It also relays to simple posting. Posting explicit slang relating to sexuality or other unacceptable material is not tolerated. Fenix Bazaar is a forum for people of all age groups.

Images or videos of death, death pictures, torture, faeces, mutilation – as well as the actual description of these acts – are not permitted.

If you think something may be explicit, don’t post it. Simple.

Racism/Sexism/Hate Posting

The Fenix Bazaar forums are not a place for racism, sexism, homophobia, racist slang or comments insinuating an action is based purely on the colour of a person’s skin. Any posts relating to the above are not tolerated on the forums. This includes using racist/sexist/homophobic slang to describe something.

Profanity

Profanity is not accepted. Use a civil tongue. The basic rule is that any words that cannot be said on television before 8pm are not permitted to be used on the forums at any point. While we have a very small censoring system in place to stop profanity being posted, continuously posting profanity simply because you know it will be censored is not tolerated. You can make coherent and intelligent posts without every second word being a profanity and censored out.

Attempting to get around the censor is also unacceptable. Most commonly used swear words are censored, so using symbols or slang spellings in order to work around the censor is not tolerated. Posting one letter and censoring the rest of the word is also unacceptable. All words censored by Fenix Bazaar must be censored in their entirety.

You may link to a site that contains profanity, however, you must warn other members.

Criminal Acts

Any discussion of criminal activity is completely prohibited on the forums. This includes even the smallest of crimes (including being a hoon in your car on a Saturday night). It also includes how to obtain illegal substances or how to do an illegal act. Put simply, if something is against the law, you cannot discuss when, how or why you or someone else may or should do it.

Copyrighted Material

Members are not permitted to post material that is copyrighted without the express permission of the owner(s) of the copyrighted material. This includes news article written by another publication. All user news and reviews must be written in your own words. Plagiarized member content will be deleted without warning.

Advertising & Solicitation

Posting a link to your website or details to your business are not permitted on the forums if the sole purpose of your registration is to promote your business. Please contact Fenix Bazaar directly if you wish to organise advertising or an exchange of promotion.

Piracy, ROMs, and Warez

Fenix Bazaar has a very strong stance against piracy and any illegal material in reference to software and hardware. Members are not permitted to discuss piracy in a positive manner, insinuate their own acts of piracy, and link to sites that have information or direct access to pirated products, including ROMs or emulators. It is also not permitted to post impressions/reviews/images of products that have not yet been officially released and have been known to be have been pirated widely.

This includes, but is not limited to, games, movies and television shows, including the use of torrents to download software illegally.

Discussion of console modifications are permitted, however discussing the illegal acts modifications might allow you to perform is not tolerated.

Banned

If you are unable to log into the forums because you’ve been banned, it is because you have broken the rules of the forums and been banned for a certain amount of time. An email is sent to your registered email detailing why you’ve been banned and for how long. If you have registered with a fake email address, you will not be able to find out why or for how long you’ve been banned – this will only be detailed through the original email. Contacting other members to ask admin/mods on your behalf and asking admin why you’ve been banned when you return won’t get you an answer. Simply check your email.

It is totally and utterly unacceptable to make another account in order to see why you’ve been banned. Doing so will result in your ban time being doubled. No exceptions.

If you wish to contest your ban, you may email Fenix Bazaar directly to put your case forward. You cannot use this email to ask why you’ve been banned – the original banning email will be the only way to know this.

But I disagree with why I’ve been banned.

If you believe you have been treated unfairly by a mod, contact them privately to settle the matter. It is totally unacceptable to discuss the matter publicly on the forums and to make your displeasure of the admin public – this falls under the basic rules of flaming, which is not permitted.

If you feel as though your ban was completely unfair, you must contact Fenix Bazaar directly, stating your username, why you’ve been banned and on what forum. If you cannot provide the reasoning as to why you’ve been banned (it is sent to you via email), your complaint cannot be dealt with.

What exactly is an “admin”?

An admin has full control over Fenix Bazaar’s forums and content and selects members to moderate forums. Most of our admin have other roles with Fenix Bazaar, so if you have a problem with something small in the forum please contact a moderator first. If you feel they cannot help you, contact an admin.

What exactly is a “mod”?

A moderator is a volunteer member who helps to enforce the TOS in specific forums.

How do I become a mod?

Moderators are chosen by existing mods and confirmed by admin. They are chosen based on their online persona and ability to help. We look for friendly, helpful members of the community, with a good understanding of the TOS, to help moderate. Do not ask to become a mod. You’ll be approached when we’re looking if you meet the criteria.
