Overwatch 2 x Persona 5 crossover heads to Season 18 with Joker Skin Lead

Overwatch 2 is gearing up for another big collaboration, and this time it’s stepping into the stylish, rebellious world of Persona 5. As part of Season 18’s lineup, a crossover between the hero shooter and Atlus’ iconic JRPG has been confirmed, promising new content that merges both franchises’ flair and fan-favourite characters.

Persona 5 meets Overwatch 2: What we know so far

While Blizzard has been tight-lipped about the finer details, the Persona 5 crossover was confirmed via the Season 18 trailer debuting at Gamescom. The teaser ends with a striking red field, surrounded by black-and-gray stars, a signature design from Persona 5. Moments later, a silhouette in a familiar pose drops in, tightens his gloves, and reveals Joker’s iconic mask, complete with three bullet holes puncturing the stars around him.

This not only confirms the crossover, but heavily hints that Cassidy will don the Joker skin, given the Western theme and shooter ties. Considering that Joker is the frontman, it’s safe to say the stylish chaos of the Phantom Thieves will trickle into Overwatch 2 with a collection of new cosmetics.

How many skins to expect?

The exact number hasn’t been announced yet, but past Overwatch 2 crossovers — like One Punch Man and Cowboy Bebop — have given us a decent benchmark. Most collaborations have introduced at least four hero skins, though some have stretched to eight or more. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Joker joined by other fan-favourite Persona 5 characters like Panther, Skull, or even Morgana in themed skins attached to Overwatch heroes.

And here’s hoping Blizzard adds a little incentive. Historically, at least one challenge-based skin drop has been available, meaning players might be able to earn rewards through gameplay rather than heading straight to the in-game shop.

When does the Overwatch 2 x Persona 5 crossover begin?

Here’s the thing: it won’t launch day one with Season 18, which lands on August 26. Like with previous collabs, there’s usually a short delay before the themed event actually kicks off. Expect the Persona 5 content to drop sometime in September or October.

Until then, players can dive into everything else Season 18 is bringing. From the looks of it, this might be the meatiest update yet, including:

  • A new support hero named Wuyang
  • Hero Progression 2.0, an overhaul to the way character progress is tracked
  • The debut of Stadium Quickplay, introducing dynamic arenas and competitive variety
  • New maps and additional game modes for the Stadium playlist

Return of the Cowboy Bebop skins

In a separate but equally exciting announcement, Overwatch 2 is bringing back the Cowboy Bebop crossover skins for a limited time during Season 18. Originally released to critical acclaim, these anime-inspired looks vanished after their first run. Their return could mark the beginning of a larger trend, re-releases for past crossover skins.

This will be the first time Blizzard has revived external IP cosmetics, outside of its LE SSERAFIM collabs. That opens the door for potential returns of past hits like the One Punch Man skins or even future reissues fans might have missed the first time around.

So what’s next?

If you’re a fan of over-the-top style, slick anime aesthetics, and strategic hero combat, this upcoming Overwatch 2 x Persona 5 crossover could be your dream matchup. Joker’s reveal may be just the beginning, and with Season 18 shaping up to be one of the most content-rich yet, the timing feels perfect.

The party doesn’t officially start until sometime after August 26, but you can bet that more info is right around the corner. So, sharpen those reflexes and maybe rewatch a few Persona 5 cutscenes: it’s about to get Phantom Thief-level wild in Overwatch 2.
