EA SPORTS FC 26 Ultimate Team Deep Dive: New Features, Events, and Competitive Gameplay

Ultimate Team returns in EA SPORTS FC 26, and this year it introduces a series of changes aimed at refining competition and injecting variety. Some are returning features with tweaks, others introduce new gameplay formats and systems, all heavily built around player feedback and engagement patterns.

New Modes & Features

  • Live Events: Limited-time competitions with themed rulesets and squad-building challenges.
  • Tournaments: A return to the classic knockout format, now with time-gated access and varied formats.
  • Gauntlet: A multi-round mode requiring players to use a different squad each round — club depth will matter more here.
  • Challengers: A new mid-tier version of FUT Champions, lowering the barrier to high-reward competition.

Division Rivals Overhaul

Progression in Rivals is being restructured with new mechanics like:

  • Bounties: Mid-game mini-objectives (e.g., scoring first) with instant rewards.
  • Duels: PvP versions of Bounties with winner-takes-all outcomes.
  • Limited Checkpoints: Relegation is back. You’ll now see clear thresholds to avoid extended losing streaks.

Qualification for Champs is now direct, based on Division ranking and points — the old Playoffs system is gone.

Gameplay Tuning: What’s Changed

EA is introducing a separate tuning set for FUT matches, with the goal of creating more responsive, consistent gameplay. Key adjustments include:

  • Fewer deflections and unpredictable bounces
  • More fluid one-touch play
  • Refined stamina and player movement

These tweaks aim to reduce RNG and boost skill-based play, though actual effectiveness will depend on implementation.

Evolutions Get Expanded

The Evolutions system now supports goalkeepers and repeatable upgrades. Cosmetics can also now stack, meaning you don’t lose your player’s look with each upgrade. Previews for attribute and visual changes are also available before confirming upgrades.

Market Access Gets Tiered

New accounts won’t have immediate access to the Transfer Market. Instead, they’ll need to complete playtime and objective milestones. Returning users with clean records get instant access — a move to curb botting and market manipulation.

Quitting Penalties & Disconnect Logic

  • Disconnects may now count as wins under certain tied-match conditions
  • Repeated early quits in FUT RUSH will trigger matchmaking penalties

New FUT Play Menu Structure

The Play menu has been overhauled with categories for:

  • For You: Personalized options and recent activity
  • Online: All PvP FUT modes
  • Play vs CPU: Squad Battles, Moments, etc.
  • Play a Friend: Classic friendlies only

Objectives are now accessible directly from each mode, cutting down on menu-hopping.

EA Sports FC 26 launches in September 26 2025.
