Marvel Rivals Season 3.5 Update: Blade joins the fight, Queen’s Codex Event and major changes revealed

Marvel Rivals’ explosive momentum continues into mid-season with the highly anticipated launch of Season 3.5 on August 8, 2025. Developer NetEase Games dropped the latest patch notes, and they’re packed with exciting new content, gameplay tweaks, and community-driven improvements. Let’s take a deep dive into everything coming your way in this mid-season refresh.

Blade steps into the arena

The sword-wielding, vampire-slaying Blade is officially joining the Marvel Rivals roster as the latest Duelist-class hero. Also known as Eric Cross Brooks, Blade is a Dhampir — half vampire, half human — armed to the teeth with a potent blend of martial arts, fiearms, and his signature Ancestral Sword.

His Ultimate Ability, Thousand-Fold Slash, lets him tear through enemy lines while reducing their healing capabilities. Think of him as a brutal close-range finisher, somewhere between Iron Fist and a chainsaw on legs. Alongside his arrival comes new lore titled “Cut to The Chase,” deepening Blade’s backstory in this chaotic multiversal battlefield.

  • Celestial to One Above All: Max 2-player teams

Chat moderation and custom filters

In a bid to keep things civil, Marvel Rivals is deploying automated moderation systems for both text and voice chat. Plus, you can now add custom muted words, filter out anything you’d rather not see.

Latency equalization in tournaments

Competitive balance takes center stage with new latency equalization technology for tournaments. If there’s a noticeable ping disparity between factions, the system will now automatically balance latency, ensuring cleaner, more fair matches across regions.

Disconnects, surrenders, and penalties overhauled

Let’s be real—DCs ruin games. This patch introduces a whole new system for handling disconnects, AFKs, and team surrenders:

New Rules Overview

  • Early surrender: Teams can now vote to surrender if a player is MIA for 90 seconds in round one.
  • Invalid Matches: Disconnects under 70 seconds = no results, with penalties applied to the DC’d player.
  • Rank Compensation System: Bronze, Silver, and Gold get up to +12 points for disrupted matches.

The deeper your rank, the smaller your compensation—down to +4 for Celestial and above. Penalties scale sharply for repeat offenses as well, hitting up to a 20-hour matchmaking ban.

Fixes, tweaks, and optimisations

The patch also brings a slew of bug fixes and performance upgrades on PC and console:

PC Highlights

  • Shader Compilation Rework: No more first-launch stutter waits. Preloads now happen in the background.
  • Graphics Test Tool: Optimizes settings based on your hardware.

Console

  • Keybind updates now behave correctly when switching heroes.

Miscellaneous Fixes

  • Venom’s emote animation cleanup
  • Improved hero jump balance
  • Upgraded stealth sound cues for Black Panther and Wolverine
  • New faction chat tab and emoji display improvements

Blade Awakens: But is it enough?

Marvel Rivals’ evolving narrative reaches a critical moment. All-Black the Necrosword has returned, the Phoenix Egg has shattered, and a fiery upheaval grips the planet Klyntar. Blade, armed with Phoenix fire and the abyss itself, joins the ultimate battle to bring down Knull and extinguish the darkness.

This mid-season update brings heavy lore, fast combat, and smart mechanics together under one polished patch. Whether you’re a casual skirmisher or a sweaty Grandmaster, there’s something here to dive into. Season 3.5 is shaping up to be a defining moment in the Marvel Rivals saga.
