Even with a noticeable absence at this year’s Xbox Games Showcase, Bethesda’s Starfield hasn’t drifted off into the void. In fact, updates and a new DLC are reportedly still in the works, alongside full-blown development of The Elder Scrolls 6.
This update comes courtesy of Windows Central’s own Jez Corden, who dished out some insider info on a recent episode of The Xbox Two podcast. Despite layoffs within the company earlier in the year, Bethesda’s core development team hasn’t abandoned ship on Starfield. There’s still content cooking behind those studio doors: we just haven’t seen it yet.

So, what’s going on with Starfield?
Let’s rewind a bit. Back in March 2024, Bethesda teased fans by saying they had “a lot of exciting things” planned for Starfield in 2024. Naturally, many expected to see those ideas take flight during June’s Xbox Games Showcase. But as we all know now, Starfield was nowhere to be seen at the 2025 event.
That radio silence sparked speculation about the game’s future. Was the lack of appearance a sign that post-launch support was dying off? According to Corden’s recent comments: not even close.
“Bethesda’s core team is still working on Starfield. Starfield’s gonna have more DLC from what I’ve heard. I don’t know when, I just heard that at least the Starfield DLC — and this is post-layoffs, by the way. [It] hasn’t been cancelled,” Corden said on The Xbox Two.
He added that while plans can always change depending on quarterly reviews or shifting priorities, the DLC is still greenlit for now. That aligns with Bethesda’s earlier statement, that the team isn’t ready to talk yet, but they’ve got more to show down the line.
What about Elder Scrolls 6?
Here’s where it gets even more interesting. While part of the studio is still heads-down working on Starfield updates, the larger shift seems to be toward The Elder Scrolls 6. That game, according to Corden, is now “full-steam ahead.” It looks like Bethesda is splitting its focus but still keeping promises to spacefaring fans while building hype for the long-awaited successor to Skyrim.
We haven’t heard much official word about TES6 since its cinematic teaser back in 2018, but it makes sense that as Starfield’s post-launch life stabilizes, teams are migrating toward Tamriel’s next chapter.
A quiet summer, but not a dead one
Starfield‘s conspicuous absence from the 2025 showcase felt jarring, especially since DLC Shattered Space was unveiled during the 2024 event. Without a follow-up this year, players began to worry if the game was already being sunset. Thankfully, Corden’s report brings a breath of relief.
Of course, until Bethesda officially confirms its release roadmap, all of this remains reported speculation. That said, Jez Corden has a solid track record with insider news, and it brings some renewed optimism for players still voyaging the galaxy.
Back in their March message, Bethesda said, “we can’t wait to talk about [what’s next] when the time is right.” Maybe that time is just around the corner.
Let’s be honest: space can be lonely. But if you’ve been waiting for more from Starfield, it looks like there’s still something on the horizon. Even if the content wasn’t ready for this summer’s spotlight, behind-the-scenes development is alive and well.
For now, chalk this one up as a cautious win for fans. Watch this space (quite literally) because both Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6 have their stars aligned for something big… eventually.
