Support heroes look to be the focus at Overwatch 2 HQ right now. Off the back of comments hinting at new heroes coming to the Support class, Blizzard says Moira is also being targeted for a slight refinement in coming seasons.
Additionally, one of the more polarising and arguably under-utilised heroes in Symmetra is also set for some changes in Season 2, in hope of boosting her up the meta ranks. The Damage hero, who actually started off as a non-healing Support hero in the first few seasons of Overwatch, has found herself placed way down deep at the bottom of the current meta, unable to really establish herself in team compositions.

Moira on the other hand has proven to be one of the more popular picks in Overwatch 2 Season 1, especially at lower ranks. While at higher ranks, the likes of Lucio and Zenyatta are more common picks, Moira’s adaptability and evasive abilities make her an appealing Support hero. Additionally, her ridiculous damage capabilities make her that little bit more fun to play. It’s not uncommon to see a Moira with more damage than healing, and perhaps even more damage than the other DPS heroes in the match.
Some in the community have been calling for her to be nerfed, but Blizzard thinks otherwise.

Speaking to fans on Twitter, Overwatch 2 lead hero designer, Alex Dawson, suggests that Moira is currently in a good spot, and could actually do with some refinements — potentially a buff — to boost her place in the meta even further.
“[We] want to make sure we get it right,” Dawson said in response to a fan asking about a Moira rework, which was first floated a few years back. “Tons of people love her playstyle, so we want any added utility to not break her flow and approachability. Have some ideas, but down the road a bit.”

So it’s clearly on the agenda, but we may have to wait a while yet. Nonetheless, it suggests Moira’s currently kit and play style is here for a while, something I’m quite happy about.
As for Symmetra, she’s a hero that badly needs some love. She’s okay to play as for a bit of fun, but her kit is far too easily countered by too many heroes. She still acts as someone of a support role, and she’s great as a last-line of defense type hero, whose turrets can protect Supports from flankers. However she has one of the worst ultimates in the game, a huge downgrade from her Teleporter or Shield Generator Ultimate from her original kit, which actually had the potential to completely change the flow of a match.

“Small tweaks coming to Symmetra in Season 2,” Dawson said. It’s not much, but it’s something to go off of. Prior to her original rework, Symmetra was my most played Hero. I’ve barely touched her since that 2018 rework, which effectively demoted her usefulness to that of just another damage hero.
Here’s hoping for some significant changes in Season 2 and beyond.
