What is the Dunk Meter in NBA 2K23?
The ‘Dunk Meter’ is NBA 2K23‘s answer to the Shot Meter for, obviously, dunking! Not unlike the aforementioned Shot Meter, the Dunk Meter is for players who want a more realistic and challenging NBA 2K23 experience.
On lower difficulty settings, it’s not especially useful or effective. However, on harder difficulties and against tougher opponents, the Dunk Meter can significantly boost your effectiveness around the ring, if done the right way.
How to get the Dunk Meter in NBA 2K23
The ‘Dunk Meter’ is used in NBA 2K23 by “activating” it when dunking the ball.
To activate the Dunk Meter, follow these steps when going for a dunk:
- Hold down ‘Turbo’
- Flick the right stick on the controller when driving to the basket
- When the player begins the dunking animation, flick down on the stick once, and then again, holding it down the second time.
There is a very tight window here to pull this off, and it depends on positioning, attribute ratings, and defenders as to how large or small this “window” is.
The purpose of the Dunk Meter — compared to simply pushing the dunk button when near the basket — is to give you more freedom in controlling the likelihood of a successful dunk. Against strong defenders and on higher difficulties, simply pushing the shooting button relies on the overall dunk rating of the player to pull off the dunk.
However, when using and mastering the Dunk Meter, you’re effectively “taking control” of the mechanisms in its entirely, and boosting your dunking attribute in the process. It’s not “easy” to master by any means, and will take a lot of practice, but once you do it’s definitely worth it.
