Xbox fans have long been calling out for more backwards compatible games on Xbox One and Xbox Series X, with Microsoft seemingly stopping testing and release of Original and Xbox 360 games to the initiative. However, it now seems like we could see new games added to the Xbox backwards compatibility list before the end of the year.
XboxEra.com co-founder, Shpeshal_Nick, claimed (per Pure Xbox)in January that more games could well be on the way to Xbox Backwards Compatibility. He’s recently Tweeted out that this game drop could come as early as November.
“So if you’re like me, you’ve been hoping the backwards compatibility program isn’t done,” Nick said in January. “Good news! It’s not. We should be a getting new batch later this year. Mix of OG and 360.”
Quoting his own Tweet this week, Nick revealed details of plans to release new games on Xbox Backwards Compatibility in the coming weeks.
“An update here. It seems some games may have been data-mined, but sometimes OG and 360 games are tested for BC but don’t make the cut so I won’t list any games as to not set expectations,” he said.
“Just a heads up that there’s been activity here so I’d probably expect something in November.”
The drop of new games on Xbox Backwards Compatibility could well coincide with the official 20th anniversary on Xbox on November 15.
“That’s what I’d be expecting,” Nick continued. “I was originally told back in January that a drop would happen later in the year. Having them on the anniversary would make the most sense. I don’t think the list will be overly big though.”
There’s been a long gap of more than a year since the last batch of titles were released on Xbox Backwards Compatibility. Many believe this has to do with expired music licenses, which may prevent a game from being made available digitally. This has long prevented the likes of Burnout and Need for Speed games being made available. NFS: Underground, anyone?
