Activision and Infinity Ward have lifted the lid off Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, detailing the exciting prospect of cross play support.
It’s been a long time coming, and we’ve had to wait for longer than usual, but Activision and developer, Infinity Ward, have finally lifted the lid on Call of Duty 2019, and it’s just as we’ve been predicting for months: the return to the fame Modern Warfare series.
The latest instalment in the Call of Duty series won’t be the long-touted Modern Warfare 4, but will instead but a “soft reboot” of the sub-series, seeing the return of some iconic characters that made the first Modern Warfare series so great.
Set to launch on October 25, 2019, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will hit PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC at the same time (as always), and will likely still maintain the early-access PS4 relationship that’s existed since Call of Duty: Ghosts. Hopefully we see better treatment for PC gamers than what they’ve received with Black Ops 4.
What is perhaps the biggest news to come out of the review, which you can view in the trailer in this article, is that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will have cross-play compatibility across PC and consoles.
“We plan for Modern Warfare to be played together across PC and console through cross-play support,” Infinity Ward co-studio head, Patrick Kelly, said.
It stands as a huge moment for the Call of Duty series, at a time when player numbers are down, and the franchise is battling it out against other big players such as Fortnite and Apex Legends.
With both the return of Modern Warfare, and cross-play support, it’s clear– and awesome — that Infinity Ward and Activision are actively working to bring players together.
