At the time, I didn’t really specify why, but I’ll take the opportunity now to explain: because Modern Warfare 2‘s multiplayer was arguably the best in the Modern Warfare series, which by default makes it one of the best Call of Duty multiplayer offerings ever.
In short, I want Modern Warfare 2 Remastered so that I can return to its great multiplayer.
This morning, multiple reports are claiming that Modern Warfare 2 Remastered is the real deal. Yay, right? Nay.
The awesome folks over at Charlie Intel broke a story earlier today citing sources that MW2R is in development at Beenox — the developer that helped Raven with Modern Warfare Remastered — and that, strangely, for whatever reason, it won’t include multiplayer.
To wake up to the latest news surrounding the possible remaster has me wondering — yet again — why I even both with this franchise anymore.
Eurogamer sources backed up Charlie Intel’s sources, so this appears to be very much the real deal.
One has to wonder exactly what Activision’s end game is here. Who signed off on this? Why would anyone pay $25 USD for a remaster of a Call of Duty campaign? Why would you not include multiplayer in a game that is so well known BECAUSE OF ITS MULTIPLAYER!?
Don’t get me wrong: Modern Warfare 2‘s campaign is pretty great. But I’m not buying it again to play through its 5-hour campaign for some refined textures and environments.
One would have to wonder whether Activision has other intentions here. I’m thinking that either it’s:
- Doing a standalone campaign release, and a multiplayer release at a later date (for an added price)
- Offering the campaign as a standalone, and the full package with multiplayer bundled in with Black Ops 4
It seems rather strange that it wouldn’t have multiplayer, and I can’t help but think that there must be more to the story.
What are your thoughts? Would you play Modern Warfare 2 Remastered if it didn’t have multiplayer included? Vote in our poll and sound off below!
