This may very well be the moment that pro gaming enters into the mainstream.
Blizzard today announced that it has teamed up with Seven West Media to broadcast this weekend’s Overwatch World Cup Group stage live from Sydney.
While the entire event won’t be shown live, you’ll be able to watch the highly anticipated match-up between Australia and Sweden, which kicks off at 11:30am on Sunday, July 23. The match will be followed by the AFL match between Richmond and GWS Giants at 1:o0pm AEST.
The Overwatch World Cup is returning in 2017. The country rankings have been determined — Australia is ranked 13th in the world — the schedules have been set and the groups announced. We now finally have details about the Group C and Group D Qualifiers, which will take place in Sydney, Australia.
The Star Event Centre in Sydney will play host to the qualifiers over the weekend of July 21-23, with two places at the Overwatch World Cup up for grabs, with the event to take place this November at BlizzCon.
Australia finds itself in Group C battling it out against Sweden (4th), Italy (20th), Portugal (29th). Group D features Finland (5th), Japan (12th), Spain (21st) and Vietnam (28th).
The event is sold out and will be a must-watch for all Overwatch fans.
The group stage will see the top two teams from each group moving onto a single-elimination playoff, with the winners from each group moving onto the eight-team field at BlizzCon in November.
