Mass Effect: Andromeda approaches character customisation a little differently than what series diehards may be used to.

The “traditional” system of picking a class and developing skills along that line has been done away with, and players will now be able to freely pick and choose skills under specific profiles, and then, pending they meet certain prerequisites, can switch between profiles on the fly.

You’ll still be able to select a class during the character customisation screen, and this will push you towards certain skills and profiles, while also giving you some boosts to help you get started.

How To Use Skill Points

As you level up throughout the game, you’ll be granted Skill Points, which can then be used to upgrade your abilities across multiple areas of your character traits.

These traits — or skills — are broken up into Combat, Biotic, and Tech. Once you earn Skill Points, you can use these points in any areas you wish, with certain skills demanding a certain number of Skill Points.

As you spend Skill Points and upgrade specific Skills or unlock new ones, your play style and Ryder characteristics will change. This in turn will change how the different Profiles react with your character: spend more Skill Points on Biotic skills, and Biotic-focused profiles will be upgraded at a faster rate and give Ryder some interesting and powerful skill boosts.

How To Switch Between Profiles

You’ll need to first unlock a specific profile before you can switch between it, but it’s as simple as navigating over to the Profile page and selecting the Profile of choice. Feel free to mix and match to see which profile gives your Ryder the most powerful and effective outcome.

Which Is The Best Profile For You?

There is no one “best” profile, because it depends entirely on your type of play.

The SOLDIER profile is perfect for players that want to invest all of their SKILL POINTS in Combat skills.

The ENGINEER profile is perfect for players looking for a combination between Combat and Tech skills, with a specific focus on Tech.

ADEPT is for lovers of Biotics and players that invest in that skillset. It’s perfect for close-quarter combat using powerful abilities.

SENTINEL is a balanced profile across both Biotics and Tech, but demands you make compromises across both for a more balanced and effective profile, as opposed to focusing on one specifically.

The VANGUARD profile is your ideal up-close and melee specialist, so if you’re bombastic and like to run and gun, this is the profile for you.

The INFILTRATOR is for players that want to employ a stealth approach, and might like to use their squadmates to deal damage while they sneak around the back towards an objective.

Finally, the EXPLORER profile is perfect for someone that simply can’t choose between the profiles, and wants the best of all worlds.

Gaetano loves Doritos and always orders Mountain Dew with his KFC. He's not sorry. He also likes Call Of Duty, but would much rather play Civ. He hates losing at FIFA, and his pet hate is people who recline their seat on short-haul flights.

Great guide. Could you please add the amount of skill points needed to unlock all of those profile ranks to your spreadsheets. (Like Soldier Rank 1: 6 skill points; Adept Rank 4: 99 skill points; Vanguard Rank 2: ?) Cheers
