Overwatch Season 3 has ended and before we’ve even had a chance to recover, Blizzard is set to unleash Season 4 upon us.

Season 4’s launch could also see a number of controversial PTR updates pushed live to the 25 million-or-so Overwatch players the world over.

Starting February 28 at 4pm PST (that’s 11am AEDST), Competitive Play Season 4 will be structured in much the same way as the seasons before it.

You’ll start things off with 10 placement matches, however this appears unlikely to determine your skill bracket, as your Matchmaking Ranking will carry over from previous seasons.

That could make it tough for players who either had tough results in their Season 3 placement matches, or didn’t finish them.

The better you place in Competitive Play matches, the more Competitive Points you’ll earn.

These point can then be used to purchase lucrative Golden Weapons, sprays and icons, which act as sort of bragging rights for players who wield them.

Here’s what you can expect to earn in Competitive Play Season 4.

  • SR 1-1499 (Bronze): 100 CP
  • SR 1500-1999 (Silver): 200 CP
  • SR 2000-2499 (Gold): 400 CP
  • SR 2500-2999 (Platinum): 800 CP
  • SR 3000-3499 (Diamond): 1200 CP
  • SR 3500-3999 (Master): 2000 CP
  • SR 4000-5000 (Grandmaster): 3000 CP

The launch of Season 4 could bring about some major gameplay changes as well.

Firstly, rumours surrounding a new hero have been lingering for months. All signs still point to Doomfist, although last week’s revelations certainly throw a spanner in the works.

Also planned as part of the upcoming update are changes to Bastion — read my summary of the changes here — while Ana’s Nanoboost may see a damage reduction cap down to 70%.

It certainly stands to be an exciting week for Overwatch players!
