Drop what you’re doing and go download Left 4 Dead’s free new campaign level

It’s been almost eight years since the release on Left 4 Dead, and the game’s original creators have returned to finish what they started.

It was developed by Turtle Rock Studios under the Valve South banner, although the studio went independent a few years later in 2011. The team has long moved on from Left 4 Dead, having developed a sequel and some expansions before moving onto 2K Games’ solid albeit dead 4v1 shooter, Evolve. The studio has a great track record, and Left 4 Dead holds an important place in many a gamer’s heart.

Speaking on the Turtle Rock forums, co-found Chris Ashton posted details about a previously unreleased and unfinished campaign level for Left 4 Dead called “DAM IT”. You can download it here.

“Just finished putting the Dam campaign that we streamed a while back into a L4D addon. It’s gray box, and some code features are missing but it’s playable from beginning to end. It also includes two standalone survival maps that never shipped,” Ashton said.

Being an unfinished and untested addition to the game, there are a number of known issues plaguing the experience, so download and install at your own risk. None of the known issues are going to burn your house down, but some spawn issues may hinder your experience.

Still, it’s worth checking out for being part of the one of it not the greatest cooperative shooter of the past decade.
