Borderlands 4 update fixes Gilded Glory bugs, GPU crashes, and Quest glitches

The looter shooter genre just got a whole lot smoother thanks to a fresh Borderlands 4 update. Released on September 18, 2025, this patch dives deep into fixing long-standing bugs — particularly those tied to the Gilded Glory preorder cosmetics — as well as performance issues that have rocked Borderlands 4’s stability on PC. While it may be a smaller update on the surface, it packs several critical quality-of-life improvements that fans have been waiting for.

Borderlands 4: One week in, fixes start dropping

The hype around Borderlands 4 hasn’t slowed down since its recent launch. Fans of the series have broadly welcomed the game’s new direction, breathing new life into a franchise that had started to show its age. Despite the misstep of Borderlands 3 and the ill-received 2024 film adaptation, the fourth mainline entry has been a crowd-pleaser. Notably, the introduction of the planet Kairos, tighter writing, and a return to faster-paced FPS combat have reinvigorated the fanbase.

But not everything at launch has been smooth sailing. Especially for those who preordered early.

Gilded Glory cosmetic pack bugs finally addressed

The Gilded Glory Pack — a bonus set of exclusive items for those who preordered — has been at the center of player complaints. The bundle includes:

  • White and gold skins for all four Vault Hunters
  • A Borderlands psycho mask wearable by any Vault Hunter
  • An exclusive ECHO-4 companion drone skin
  • Four legendary weapons
  • A matching weapon skin

Players reported that some of these coveted rewards were incorrectly appearing in the wild, popping out of standard loot chests instead of being locked to preorder accounts. Others struggled with a bug that rendered the in-game “Reward Center” completely unusable once they tried claiming their Gilded Glory Pack. Thankfully, this new update tackles each of these problems head-on.

Performance issues on PC get first wave of fixes

While Gearbox hasn’t dropped a major content patch just yet, this update is a solid first step in addressing some performance pain points. PC users especially will appreciate targeted fixes for GPU-related crashes and animation state errors. System instability and audio glitches — persistent thorns in the side of high-end setups — have also received attention in this patch.

Still, for all the good, some serious bugs remain. A particularly nasty issue is still wiping skill points from player characters, essentially resetting players’ skill trees entirely. This has been most commonly affecting co-op players, leading to frustration and resets. Another lingering concern is a memory leak that’s causing frame rates to plummet during extended gameplay sessions. The only workaround for now? Quitting and relaunching the game. Oof.

Mission progression and loot pool adjustments

Borderlands 4 is full of complex missions and multi-stage objectives, so anything disrupting progression is a big deal. Thankfully, Gearbox fixed a blocker in the mission “Talk to Zadra” where exiting mid-dialogue could cause your objective to break entirely. That’s now resolved: smooth sailing ahead.

The patch also removes the Gilded Glory legendary weapons from standard loot chests. If you didn’t preorder, don’t expect to find them out in the wild anymore. And if you’ve seen “Doesn’t own DLC” warnings pop up on gear you totally should have access to, that bug’s squashed, at least on PC. Console players will see this fix roll out in the coming days.

What’s next for Borderlands 4?

It’s early days for Borderlands 4 — just one week post-launch — but fans are already eager for broader fixes. Gearbox’s track record means players are cautiously optimistic about a bigger patch inbound. If future updates can tackle the nasty skill point wipe and that frustrating memory leak, we could be looking at a seriously polished looter shooter experience within weeks.
