Starfield August 2025 update brings bug fixes, but fans still waiting for more

Starfield just received a fresh update on August 5 2025, and the patch notes outline a handful of minor fixes and improvements, but for many in the community, it’s another update that highlights what’s still missing. With interest in the game declining and new content seemingly stuck in development limbo, Bethesda’s latest effort is unlikely to reverse player sentiment on its own.

What’s in the Starfield August 2025 Update?

Update 1.15.222 includes several small quality-of-life tweaks and general stability improvements, aimed at smoothing out some of the game’s lingering rough edges:

  • Minor improvements to Creations menu formatting and display
  • Resolved an issue with Extreme Temperature gear showing up incorrectly
  • Better sorting in the Missions Menu
  • General crash and stability fixes

That’s it. No new weapons, no new missions, no gameplay tweaks, and certainly no mention of the rumored second expansion. It’s a tidy patch that does its job behind the scenes, but in terms of substance, it’s light.

Where’s the new content?

Since its late 2023 launch, Starfield has struggled to hold momentum. While it nailed the ambiance, soundtrack, and world-building, its exploration and storytelling failed to land with a broad portion of its audience.

The game’s first DLC, Shattered Space, dropped a year after release and underwhelmed most fans. Between numerous bugs and the lack of meaningful new gear, the expansion did little to breathe new life into the universe. And now, the second expansion seems even further off.

According to recent leaks, Starfield’s next major DLC has reportedly been pushed beyond 2025. That means no big expansion for the rest of the year, an unfortunate blow for the already dwindling PC player base, which currently sits around 4,500 concurrent players.

Starfield was a no-show at Xbox Games Showcase 2025

Back in June, Bethesda skipped over Starfield completely at the Xbox Games Showcase 2025, a decision that left many fans scratching their heads. With rumors swirling about internal focus shifting to Fallout 5 and The Elder Scrolls 6, the radio silence felt almost like an admission of defeat, at least for now.

Sure, the Creation Club has kept things ticking with updates and new user-generated content. But from the studio itself? Not much. Players are still waiting for a clear vision for where the game goes next.

Rumors of a PS5 Port in 2026

Earlier this week, a report claimed that a PS5 version of Starfield is scheduled for Spring 2026, to coincide with the second expansion and additional quality-of-life features. However, it seems no announcement is planned at Gamescom 2025, and the port definitely won’t be shadow dropped.

If the port is real, it might breathe new life into the player base, but Bethesda has yet to officially confirm any plans to bring Starfield to Sony’s platform.

While any update is better than none, Starfield’s latest patch is more of a maintenance tune-up than a meaningful content drop. For players hoping for a sign that the game is still a priority, this update might feel like more of the same: minor fixes while the larger issues and content drought remain.

Until Bethesda shows more of what’s next — be it a second expansion, the rumored PS5 release, or even a major overhaul — fans may remain in wait-and-see mode, hoping that Starfield’s best days are still ahead.
