Whether you’re new to Overwatch 2 or a fan favourite from the first game, chances are you’re still driving towards unlocking one of the illustrious Golden Guns in the game. They return from the first game to once again light up the Overwatch 2 competitive scene.
In Overwatch, these guns were seen kind of like bragging rights: having a Golden Gun for a Hero was your way of saying you had mastered the hero to such a degree that you want said Hero to have a special gun. The same can very much be said in Overwatch 2 as the system itself hasn’t changed much.

Golden Guns don’t actually give you any advantage on the battlefield in Overwatch 2, aside from potentially forcing the enemy — and your teammates — from recognising your self-assigned skills on any one Hero.
How to get Golden Guns in Overwatch 2
Golden Guns in Overwatch 2 can be found in the Hero Gallery, in each hero’s individual cosmetics section. Unfortunately, you can’t purchase these guns with legacy credits from Overwatch, nor Overwatch Coins, which are new in Overwatch 2.
The one and only way to unlock and get them in Overwatch 2 is to play a lot of Competitive, earn subsequent “Competitive Points”, and use said points to unlock the Golden Guns.

Each and every Competitive match earns you come Competitive Points, win, lose, or draw. Winning will earn your more than losing but the good news is, simply playing will earn your Competitive Points.
One Golden Gun comes in at the eye-watering 3,000 Competitive Points, which is approximately 200 Competitive wins. So yes, they’re rare, they’re lucrative, and they’re incredibly hard to get. But that’s the point: once you have 3,000 Competitive Points, spend them wisely, and only on a Golden Gun for a Hero you know you’re especially good at.

All Competitive Points from Overwatch were carried over into Overwatch 2, so you don’t have to worry about losing them if you had a stockpile.
