As we move into a new generation of online play, cross-platform gaming is no longer a rare luxury — it’s the new norm. With Battlefield 6 crossplay enabled by default, DICE is embracing the trend, but not without sparking some age-old debates surrounding platform fairness. Does Battlefield 6 support crossplay?
Yes, Battlefield 6 fully supports crossplay across console and PC platforms. Out of the gate, it’s turned on by default, meaning you can seamlessly match up with players on different systems, within reason. While the system increases matchmaking speed by broadening the player pool, it also brings up concerns around keyboard and mouse advantages on PC compared to controller input on consoles.
To address this, the game features what the developers describe as a “console-preferred crossplay” approach. According to BF6 Producer Alexia Christofi, if you’re playing on console, Battlefield 6 will first try to match you with other console players across both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Only when it can’t find an appropriate match will it expand the search to include PC players.
How to disable crossplay in Battlefield 6
Not a fan of cross-platform matchups? You’re free to opt out: just don’t try doing it mid-match. To disable crossplay:
- Head to the main Settings menu.
- Navigate to the System section.
- At the top, you’ll see the Cross-Play toggle.
Keep in mind, you can’t change this setting if you’re currently in a party, queueing for a match, or already connected to a server. Make sure to fully back out to the main menu before making any changes.
Once disabled, matchmaking will be limited strictly to your platform, so Xbox players will only find Xbox lobbies, PS5 with PS5, and PC with PC (including Steam, Epic Games, and the EA App).
Can you play Battlefield 6 Beta Cross-Platform?
Absolutely. The Battlefield 6 beta launches with full cross-platform support enabled by default, so you’ll be able to squad up with friends no matter which system they’re on, as long as you’re all connected to your respective EA accounts. That said, if you’re having trouble linking up, it may be a broader Battlefield 6 server issue standing in your way.
What about Cross-Progression?
Crossplay isn’t the only modern feature in BF6: cross-progression is also supported, which is huge if you plan to swap between platforms. So long as you’re logged into the same EA account, all of your unlocks, stats, and progress will carry over seamlessly across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
But here’s the catch: Battlefield 6 is not cross-purchase. That means while your progress may follow you, the game license won’t. You’ll need to buy a separate copy of the game for each platform you want to play on. Something to keep in mind if you plan on double — or triple — dipping.

That depends. If you’re all about faster matchmaking and playing with friends across platforms, enabling crossplay is the obvious choice.
