Call of Duty bringing back Blackout Mode in Warzone for Spring 2026

Call of Duty fans, you’re in for a nostalgia-fuelled adrenaline rush: Blackout mode is making a comeback. Set to hit Call of Duty: Warzone in Spring 2026, the iconic battle royale mode from Black Ops 4 is being reimagined for a whole new audience, and it’s bringing some serious heat.

Back to the Future: Blackout Returns

If you’ve been around the Call of Duty scene long enough, you probably remember the original Blackout mode — the franchise’s first stab at battle royale — introduced in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 back in 2018. While it might’ve been overshadowed by Warzone, which exploded in popularity in 2020, Blackout laid the groundwork for what battle royale could look like in the COD universe.

And now, it’s making its glorious return — not as a simple remaster, but as a “bold new experience” according to Activision. The announcement came via the Call of Duty Next event and was further confirmed on the franchise’s official Twitter account.

Welcome to Avalon: A new map, a familiar feel

The resurrected Blackout mode won’t just be tacked on: it’s getting the love it deserves. The action will unfold in a new map called Avalon, which is also set to be a centerpiece in the upcoming Black Ops 7, launching on November 14.

A teaser image showed off wingsuit-equiped operators soaring across Avalon’s skies, reminiscent of Blackout’s original high-flying, high-stakes gameplay. Expect a map that mixes nostalgia with innovation — likely pulling together what worked before with today’s advancements in map design and gunplay systems.

Warzone’s Roadmap: Blackout is just the beginning

Blackout isn’t the only surprise on the way. During the Call of Duty Next event, the developers also revealed some juicy additions to the Warzone roadmap, like updated versions of Rebirth Island and Verdansk (yes, really), along with the return of Ranked Play.

All of this paints a clear picture: Call of Duty is dialling into what made these experiences special to begin with – and giving fans a lot to chew on moving into 2026.

Black Ops 7 Multiplayer Also Gets Juiced

And while Warzone got the spotlight, Black Ops 7 isn’t being left in the dust. The developers revealed significant multiplayer updates during the same event, including:

  • A revamped omnimovement system to enhance player flow and combat agility.
  • A chaotic new 6v6 Overload Mode that brings tighter, faster rounds of action.
  • An extended 20v20 Skirmish Mode to scale up the chaos for massive firefights.

With these additions, Black Ops 7 is shaping up to be a battleground for both longtime loyalists and new blood. Combined with Warzone’s content overhaul, the next chapter in the Call of Duty saga is set to hit hard across the board.

Will this be Blackout’s big comeback?

Let’s be real: Blackout deserved more love. Its innovative design, wingsuit mechanics, and blend of traditional COD gunplay with BR scale made it a cult favourite, even if it never reached Warzone’s mass success. Now, with all eyes on 2026, this reboot could finally give the mode its long-overdue redemption arc.

Whether you’re an OG Black Ops player or a Warzone warrior looking for something new (but familiar), Spring 2026 can’t come soon enough. Bookmark Avalon. Load up the wingsuit. It’s nearly time to drop in — again.
