Hollow Knight: Silksong continues to refine its incredible debut with the release of Patch 2, rolling out fixes and improvements aimed squarely at smoothing out the lingering issues players have uncovered in the weeks since launch.

The highly anticipated sequel from Team Cherry has been nothing short of a smash hit. Since its release on September 4, Silksong has amassed a staggering 5 million players across all platforms, boasting over 3 million in sales on Steam alone during its first week. The success has been so immense that it even overwhelmed multiple online storefronts at launch — and the game has reportedly brought in more than $50 million in revenue to date.

What’s new in Hollow Knight: Silksong Patch 2?

While Patch 1 focused more on rebalancing some of the game’s early difficulty spikes, Patch 2 dives deep into the backend, stamping out bugs and refining gameplay flow without altering core difficulty much. That’s either a relief or a disappointment depending on how you feel about the game’s infamous challenge curve.

The latest update addresses a wide range of issues — from NPC dialogue bugs to boss fight glitches that had been affecting pacing and immersion. Players will especially appreciate the fix to the frustrating bug where Cogflies would reset their HP to full on scene changes — a headache for anyone trying to clear out an area efficiently.

Surprising nerfs, welcome fixes

One hot topic among fans has been how enemies like the previously buffed Cogflies got toned down slightly. This update prevents them from incorrectly resetting their HP, which many felt gave them an unfair edge during key battles. Additionally, some enemies were found targeting unintended units like Skullwings, leading to some chaotic interactions that have now been corrected.

On the visual side, PC players can finally tinker with a Dithering effect option in the Advanced Video Settings menu. While this setting reduces color banding, players should note it may slightly soften foreground assets. It’s disabled by default, but it’s a welcome addition for those looking to fine-tune the game’s aesthetic fidelity.

A few lingering issues

Despite the extensive list of bug fixes, there’s one major item that didn’t make the cut: the broken Simplified Chinese translation. According to Team Cherry’s communication lead Matthew Griffin, a fix is in the works and expected “in the coming weeks.” That may not be fast enough for some international fans, but at least the team is publicly acknowledging the oversight.

In contrast to the earlier patch — which dialled down some of the early punishing encounters like Moorwing and Sister Splinter — Patch 2 doesn’t aim to change much on the challenge front. That might come as a disappointment to newer players still feeling overwhelmed by Silksong’s elevated pace.

Team Cherry has previously stated that the faster, more agile Hornet naturally requires smarter and more aggressive enemies compared to the original Knight. It’s a bold design move, but one that’s drawn some criticism from parts of the fanbase. Still, Team Cherry encourages players to embrace exploration and adaptability — two cornerstones of the franchise’s philosophy — as alternatives to brute-forcing every fight.
