Overwatch 2 disables Tracer in Stadium Mode after game-breaking recall glitch

Tracer’s grand entrance into Overwatch 2’s Stadium mode ended just as quickly — and chaotically — as it began. Blizzard has temporarily disabled the iconic damage hero after a hilarious yet completely broken interaction between her Recall ability and Stadium Items allowed her to essentially break the in-game economy.

Tracer takes Stadium by storm … and then breaks it

The mid-Season 18 update introduced a slew of balance changes, the much-anticipated Persona 5 collaboration event, and the surprising addition of Tracer to Stadium mode. But within days of her debut, players discovered a bizarre exploit that turned Tracer’s time-hopping antics into a terrifying loophole. Using her Recall ability, players were able to effectively trick the system, gaining Item effects after selling them and keeping their Stadium Cash.

Sounds busted? Oh, it absolutely was.

Here’s the breakdown: players would purchase an Item from the Stadium Armory, sell it back for a refund, and then activate Tracer’s Recall. This would rewind time just enough to allow her to retain the benefits of the sold Item while keeping her inventory slot free and pocketing all the cash. Effectively, players could run around with all the power and none of the cost.

From zero to 1600 HP: The bug in full effect

One particularly viral example of this exploit was shared by Overwatch 2 player Landia on Twitter, where Tracer is seen sporting a downright absurd 1600+ Health and Armor setup. For context, Tracer is typically a glass cannon hero built on speed and evasion, not sheer bulk. This glitch essentially turned her from a squishy flanker to a tank on steroids: unkillable and unstoppable.

So what went wrong?

Tracer’s Recall ability works by rewinding her position, health, and status to where she was three seconds prior. The issue? Stadium’s backend systems struggled to reconcile the fact that players could change their health significantly via Items within those three seconds, especially if said Items no longer existed in inventory post-sale.

In a thematic twist, Tracer’s time-meddling antics found a way to outwit both enemies and game code. But Blizzard wasn’t as amused.

Blizzard responds, disables Tracer (for now)

Following player reports and viral social media posts, Blizzard has responded by disabling Tracer from Stadium mode until the exploit can be patched out. There’s currently no official word on how soon she’ll be back, but insiders suggest it’s possible she could return as early as this weekend. Realistically? Don’t be shocked if it’s next week.

This timing also aligns with Blizzard’s usual patch rollout rhythm, meaning Tracer fans may have to sit out the weekend before their favorite speedster is back in the rotation.

New Stadium recruits on the horizon

Tracer’s time in the spotlight might have been cut short, but there’s more on the way. When Season 19 kicks off on October 14, Overwatch 2 Stadium will be adding new faces to its chaotic roster. Torbjorn and Sojourn are strongly hinted to be next in line.

Following patterns from recent seasons, it’s likely we’ll get three new heroes on day one of Season 19, with a fourth hero landing a month later in a mid-season refresh: hopefully without any reality-bending bugs this time around.

Time travel still tricky business

Look, Tracer breaking time isn’t exactly new lore. But turning Stadium into a playground of infinite health and cash definitely wasn’t what Blizzard had in mind. It’s a hilarious (and fittingly ironic) glitch given her in-universe power set, but one that clearly upended the competitive balance.

We’ll be keeping tabs on her status and upcoming Stadium additions as they’re officially confirmed. Stay tuned, and maybe don’t mess with time, yeah?
