After months of speculation and radio silence, EA has finally unveiled the multiplayer experience of Battlefield 6, and it’s bringing a whole new level of chaos, destruction, and strategy to the frontlines. Console warriors and tactical-savvy marksmen, mark your calendars: the highly anticipated shooter lands on Xbox Series X and Series S on October 10, 2025, with a full-scale open beta planned for this August.

Beta Incoming: Your Battlefield 6 test drive starts August 9
Can’t wait to get your boots on the digital ground? EA’s got you covered. An open beta is officially set to launch across Xbox Series consoles (and other platforms) between August 9–10 and again from August 14–17. Players will be able to preload the beta starting August 4, so get that hard drive ready.
Even better? If you’re lucky enough to snag early access, you’ll be able to jump in earlier on August 7. Multiple trailers have dropped alongside the announcement, showcasing the game’s core mechanics, combat classes, maps, and fan-favorite Portal mode.
Battlefield 6’s Core Features: Destruction, Combat, and Movement Reimagined
EA has gone all-in on redefining the Battlefield formula. A deep-dive look at gameplay reveals a slew of new and updated mechanics aimed at making every shot, sprint, and smash feel uniquely impactful:
- Tactical Destruction: Tear down walls, ceilings, or even entire buildings to trap enemies, build new pathways, or just cause coordinated chaos. Vehicles can mow through environments as massive wrecking balls, creating a dynamic battlefield experience.
- Kinesthetic Combat System: The revamped system aims to make players feel more connected to both their soldier and the battlefield. From visceral gunplay to advanced movements like crouch sprint and drag-and-revive, every motion now feels more deliberate and physically grounded.
- Enhanced Squad Play: It’s not just about running and gunning. Expect refined squad mechanics that make coordination more crucial than ever, especially across combined-infantry and vehicle skirmishes.
In EA’s own words, you’ll “wage all-out war” in a theater where Fighter Jets, Tanks, skydiving RPGs, Heavy Artillery, and high-intensity infantry combat blend seamlessly. It’s been designed as the ultimate sandbox for squad-based mayhem and strategy-driven destruction.
No Xbox One Version: Battlefield 6 is Current-Gen only
Here’s a heads-up for legacy console users: Battlefield 6 will not be launching on Xbox One. EA has chosen to focus exclusively on next-generation consoles, meaning only Xbox Series X and S systems have been tapped for release. This move likely reflects the game’s advanced mechanics, physics, and particle-heavy environments that require next-gen processing power.
Pre-orders are already live on the Xbox Store, with the base version priced at £62.99 / $62.99. Subscribers to EA Play or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate also get a 10% discount.
What about Battle Royale?
Though EA hasn’t officially dropped all the details just yet, there’s been a tease of a battle royale mode under the “BF Labs” banner. While we don’t know much beyond hints, it’s enough to get speculative chatter going. Could this bring an experimental, sci-fi twist to the Battlefield franchise’s gritty warfare aesthetic? Time will tell.

Whether you’re a veteran of the trenches or gearing up for your first firefight, Battlefield 6 offers a promising mix of crazy-scale action and tight, tactical gameplay.
