Xbox July 2025 update brings big upgrades to PC, Cloud Gaming, and more

The Xbox July 2025 update is now rolling out across Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and it’s stacked with exciting new features for Game Pass Ultimate users. From streaming your own games directly through the PC app to tracking your cross-device play history, this update is tailor-made for players wanting more flexibility and connectivity in their gaming lives.

Stream your own games on PC: Now available to everyone

Let’s start with a powerhouse addition. Microsoft is extending its ‘Stream Your Own Game’ feature to all PC gamers with a Game Pass Ultimate subscription. While it initially rolled out to Xbox Insiders, it’s now live across 28 countries where Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta) is supported.

So what does that mean for you? You can now stream over 250 titles from your personal library: even games not in the Game Pass catalog. That includes big hitters like Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Mafia: Definitive Edition, and The Callisto Protocol. No need to install, no waiting. Just fire up the Xbox app on your PC, and you’re set.

This isn’t just convenient: it’s a game-changer (pun intended). You’ll save disk space, skip long installs, and even access console-only games directly from your PC. It’s the kind of flexibility we didn’t know we needed until now.

One library, all devices: Cross-Device play history now testing

Xbox Insiders are also getting access to a new feature: a dedicated ‘Play History’ tab. While this is currently limited to Insiders, it lays the groundwork for a smarter, more unified Xbox experience.

Here’s what makes it cool: players will see their exact play history across all devices. Say you start a game on your Xbox Series X, pause midway, then hop onto your PC later. This update remembers where you left off, so you can pick it right back up without missing a beat.

Plus, all your cloud-playable games — whether they’re owned or part of Game Pass — will be listed in one centralised library. Already own something like an original Xbox classic or a console-only hit? It’ll be there, ready to launch from the PC app.

Microsoft Rewards just got more gamer-friendly

If you’re the kind of gamer who loves racking up Microsoft Rewards points (who doesn’t love free stuff?), you’ll be thrilled about this new feature. The Xbox PC app now lets you track your points progress live, as you play.

For now, this feature is rolling out regionally and is available to players aged 18 and over with a Microsoft account. Progress is visible in-game, tallying up your steps toward weekly bonuses and letting you see how close you are to claiming your points, just don’t forget to redeem them!

And there’s more under the hood

While these are the major highlights, the July 2025 update also includes several under-the-radar improvements. We’re talking new Play Anywhere titles, tweaks to Retro Classics, and fresh content in the Stream Your Own Game catalog.

These smaller updates contribute to an ecosystem that’s becoming increasingly versatile. Whether you’re gaming on console, PC, or via the cloud, Microsoft’s making sure your transition between platforms is as seamless and rewarding as possible.

Looking ahead

The July update feels like a major step toward a fully integrated Xbox experience. Microsoft is clearly doubling down on giving players more control over when, where, and how they play. And with these features continuing to roll out gradually, the future of Xbox looks far more unified and streamlined than ever before.
