Wuchang: Fallen Feathers – How to get The Lightzen Key & use it

Stuck at a locked gate in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers and not sure how to move forward? If you’ve made your way through the eerie corners of the Reverent and Lightzen Temple areas, chances are you’ve hit a hard stop because of a missing key. That’d be the Lightzen Key, a crucial item that’ll open the gates to more sinister secrets and story progression.

Lightzen Key wuchang

Here’s everything you need to know to grab the Lightzen Key, power through the boss fight blocking your path, and unlock what lies beyond.

How to get The Lightzen Key

To get your hands on the Lightzen Key, you’ll need to take down your first ‘true’ test in the game: Master Raider – the Man-Eating Dhutanga. If you’ve been floating through the game’s early enemies, Dhutanga is where that comfortable ride comes to a dead stop.

This boss resides deep in the Lightzen Temple area. Start at the Buddha Cliffs Shrine and head down the ladder into a twisting route through caves and woodland. Along the way, make sure to deal with the Tang Palace Maid hidden in the cave, not just for loot, but also to unlock Benedictions.

Finding The Lightzen Temple Shrine

Once you make it to the Lightzen Temple Shrine, push through the temple doors directly behind it. Carve your path through a courtyard crawling with enemies, then locate and unlock the large wooden gate sitting ahead.

Waiting behind it? Your target: Master Raider.

How to beat Master Raider: Man-Eating Dhutanga

This fight will demand more finesse and timing than anything you’ve faced so far. Dhutanga wields a long blade-tipped staff with sweeping attacks, heavy strikes, and surprising reach. Thankfully, all of his attacks can be shimmer-dodged (perfect dodge) to earn Skyborn Might, which you can use to unleash powerful spells or buff your weapon.

Master Raider’s Moveset

  • Scooping Charge: He plants the blade and rushes you, before scooping the weapon upward. Dodge during the scoop or as he charges in.
  • Earth Stomp Shockwave: A heavy foot stomp kicks dirt and rocks up, both obscuring vision and creating AoE knockback waves. Watch the foot: shimmer just before impact.
  • Close-Range Staff Slam: When you’re up close, he swings the weapon down hard. A quick dodge to the side will save your hide here.
  • Aerial Slam: He launches into the air, pirouettes, then crashes down. This is fast but dodgeable: time it with his landing.

At around 50% HP, Dhutanga turns brutal. He . Expect faster, more dangerous versions of his original attacks, and more area denial.

Recommended Strategy

Bring both a melee and spell-based loadout. Dhutanga takes solid damage from both, and those shimmer-dodges will give you Skyborn Might to work with. Mix aggressive combos in windows between his moves, and don’t forget to heal between phases.

When Dhutanga finally falls, he drops several valuable items: the Temperance item, Flame Bone Needle, Copper Jug, and, of course, the Lightzen Key.

Where to use The Lightzen Key

Now that you’ve earned the Lightzen Key, it’s time to use it to crack open new story content. The key unlocks a gate that leads to the Shu Sanctum, where the next major boss fight awaits.

This gate — aptly named Lightzen Gate — is located directly opposite the Lightzen Shrine. From the area where you fought Master Raider, double back past the shrine and follow the straight path to a locked gate. Use your newly acquired Lightzen Key to access it.

Pro tip: you’ve likely earned a good amount of Red Mercury from that last battle, so take a moment at the shrine to level up or fine-tune your build. The path ahead won’t play any nicer.

What’s next after the Lightzen Gate?

Behind the gate lies the foreboding Shu Sanctum, a place shrouded in mystery and danger. It’s also your stepping stone to new story developments and progression through Wuchang: Fallen Feathers. Keep your build tight, your dodges tighter, and your patience tighter still, things are about to get much harder.
