According to a well-connected industry insider, Microsoft is preparing to announce more Xbox titles for PlayStation 5 and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, expanding its footprint beyond traditional console boundaries.

More Xbox hits coming to rival platforms

First reported during a discussion on The Game Business Show, journalist and GamesIndustry.biz head Christopher Dring dropped a juicy hint: more Xbox games could be landing on PS5 and Switch 2 “in the coming weeks.” He shared this tidbit while speaking with Circana executive director Mat Piscatella, suggesting the timing may align with Gamescom 2025, which is set for August 20-24.

This wouldn’t be Microsoft’s first foray into other ecosystems; recent examples include Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 and Gears of War: Reloaded, both scheduled to launch on PS5 next month. Even The Outer Worlds 2 is slated for a PlayStation release in October. But if the insider’s predictions turn out to be true, the gaming giant isn’t done yet, not by a long shot.

What’s potentially on the menu?

While no specific titles have been confirmed just yet, there’s been chatter in the wind about some big hitters finally making their multiplatform debut. Chief among those is Starfield, the flagship RPG from Bethesda, which has long been rumored to be getting a PS5 port. Bethesda recently teased that more Starfield updates are coming in 2025, and let’s be honest: a PS5 version would definitely qualify as “exciting news.”

Another strong candidate? Grounded 2. Obsidian’s follow-up to their surprise backyard survival hit is hotly anticipated, and given that the original Grounded made its way to both PS5 and the current Nintendo Switch, a sequel hitting the PS5 and Switch 2 just makes sense.

Possible coming attractions for PS5 and Switch 2:

  • Starfield
  • Grounded 2
  • Avowed
  • South of Midnight
  • A rumoured Halo: Combat Evolved remake
  • Doom: The Dark Ages (already confirmed for PS5)
  • Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (also confirmed for PS5)

There’s also a strong possibility that Doom: The Dark Ages and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will be part of the Switch 2 lineup soon, solidifying Xbox’s role in Nintendo’s next-gen launch line-up.

Why Xbox’s strategy makes perfect sense … now

Times have changed. Once upon a time, exclusivity was king: the way to define, differentiate, and dominate. But now? Ecosystems and communities are the real battlefields. Circana’s Mat Piscatella explained that players increasingly stick within their established console ecosystems due to to friends, libraries, and habits. Exclusive titles aren’t pulling people away like they once did.

Microsoft’s response? Meet players where they are. And by the looks of it, they’re all over the place.

Case in point: Forza Horizon 5 is reportedly the best-selling PS5 title of 2025 so far. Yes, an Xbox studio’s game reigning supreme on Sony’s console: who would’ve thought? This breakthrough success only bolsters Microsoft’s confidence in a multiplatform future.

And it’s not just Xbox. Sony itself is toeing new ground with Helldivers 2 being announced for Xbox platforms earlier this month. When rivals begin to share toys, you know the playground rules are changing.

So, when can we expect an announcement?

If Dring’s timeline is on point, we should hear more official reveals in the coming weeks, potentially culminating in a showcase at Gamescom 2025. With major releases already stacking up for PS5 and the Switch 2 looming on the horizon, momentum is clearly building for what could be a historic shift in console gaming strategy.

The future’s fluid, and that’s exciting

Honestly, this isn’t just some corporate maneuvering: this feels like a reshaping of modern gaming culture. Console loyalty may never fully disappear, but with Xbox aiming to co-exist on PS5 and Switch, we’re looking at a more inclusive era where gamers pick access over allegiance.

And hey, if it means more people get to experience games like Grounded 2 or a remade Halo: Combat Evolved, who’s really going to argue?

We’ll keep our eyes peeled as Microsoft makes its next move in this growing multiplatform playbook. Stay tuned.
