Remedy Entertainment has lit a fire under its co-op experience, FBC: Firebreak, with a roadmap that lays out the game’s evolution well beyond its initial Xbox Game Pass debut. According to a new blog post on Steam, the developer is preparing the groundwork for a massive September update, and this, as Remedy promises, “is just the start.”

Four patches later, Firebreak is just heating up
Firebreak has already seen four early patches since launch, but the team’s upcoming ‘Major Update’ marks a significant leap forward. Remedy is candid, however not everything listed for the September rollout is set in stone just yet. What we’re getting now is an exciting glimpse into the studio’s development focus for the months ahead.
“The following isn’t everything that we are working on for the September Major Update, nor what comes after that, but these topics represent our focus for the upcoming months of development,” Remedy says. And there’s plenty on the table worth talking about.
Tutorial mode, because some things need explaining
Let’s face it: Firebreak doesn’t pull any punches when it comes to its gameplay mechanics. Remedy has acknowledged this and is rolling out a playable tutorial mission to ease new players into its chaotic, mold-infested world. Alongside that? Improved pop-up tips to bring better clarity and helpful guidance as players dive deeper into the abyss.

The arsenal expands: New weapons incoming
Veterans looking for fresh firepower will be glad to hear that three new heavy weapons are slated for release. These additions are aimed squarely at shaking up the game’s combat loop and offering more tactical variety. While exact weapon types haven’t been disclosed yet, this expansion hints at a deeper sandbox for squad-based experimentation.
Mods make the cut: Goodbye upgrades, hello customisation
Perhaps the most intriguing part of the roadmap is the overhaul of Firebreak’s upgrade system. Remedy is scrapping the current system in favour of a full-blown mod mechanic that allows players to tailor their loadouts and abilities to suit their playstyle. More customisation? More power to the people.
A new job and moldy mayhem
The upcoming update also introduces a brand-new Job, complete with handcrafted levels, three new Zones, and an ominous new status effect. Remedy teases the addition of two new enemies and coyly references an internal codename for the Job – “the sushi train” – suggesting a bizarre and possibly stomach-churning mission that involves identifying and cleaning up dangerous mold strains.
“This first Major Update will bring a brand-new Job into Firebreak, requiring you to identify and eliminate – and hopefully not eat – strains of mold,” the blog reads. “But more about that later.”

Enter the Crisis Board: Improving Job Variety
Alongside this new mission content, Firebreak’s existing Jobs are getting more dynamic with the addition of the Crisis Board. This new feature is designed to improve mission diversity and give players more meaningful engagement across ongoing tasks, which should go a long way in addressing repetition concerns from early players.
More to Come: September and Beyond
While September’s update is the centerpiece for now, Remedy’s language makes it clear – this isn’t a one-and-done kind of deal. The Finnish developer is framing this roadmap as a long-term plan to refine and build on Firebreak’s potential, especially while it remains a staple on Xbox Game Pass.
Want all the juicy tidbits in one place? Remedy’s full post over on Steam is a must-read for anyone invested in the direction Firebreak is heading. For now, sharpen your skills, wrangle your squad, and maybe get ready to ride “the sushi train”… whatever that means.
