ROG Xbox Ally price leak hints at powerful yet affordable handheld caming xperience

The handheld PC gaming arena is getting crowded, and ASUS is jumping back into the spotlight with the upcoming ROG Xbox Ally, a new take on the ROG Ally line that might add a direct Xbox twist. Following its announcement at the Xbox Showcase, the big question on everyone’s mind was: How much will it cost?

Well, thanks to a leak (spotted by 3djuegos) that previewed ASUS’s own listings, we finally have a solid ballpark: €599 for the standard ROG Xbox Ally (about $700 USD / £520) and a steeper €899 for the upgraded ROG Xbox Ally X model (roughly $1,050 USD / £780).

A premium price … but a premium pitch

If these numbers hold, the ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X will drop at the top end of the handheld market, pricing higher than both Valve’s Steam Deck OLED (around $649 USD) and the new Nintendo Switch 2 ($449 USD).

The premium tag makes sense when you look at what ASUS is packing inside. The cheaper version is rumoured to include at least a 512GB M.2 SSD, a 7” 1080p screen, and an 80Wh battery – larger than the Steam Deck’s battery by a fair margin. The Ally X would boost that to 1TB SSD storage and a 60Wh battery, pushing performance further for hardcore portable gamers.

Why the “Xbox” Branding?

One of the biggest surprises is the branding twist. ASUS is apparently embracing the Xbox ecosystem more tightly this time, positioning the new Ally as a true Game Pass-ready device. It’s still a Windows PC under the hood, so you can run anything, but that Xbox tie-in signals a clear pitch: plug-and-play Xbox Game Pass, cloud streaming, and maybe even Xbox-specific optimisations.

Steam Deck killer or just another contender?

Specs alone won’t make or break this device. With fierce competition from the Steam Deck OLED’s vibrant display and the Lenovo Legion Go’s detachable controls, ASUS needs to nail thermals, portability, and battery life.

If they deliver on all fronts — especially at these premium price points — the ROG Xbox Ally could absolutely carve out a loyal fanbase. But with launch rumoured for this year, the clock’s ticking for ASUS to prove that the price hike is worth it.

This leaked pricing makes the ROG Xbox Ally one of the most expensive mainstream handheld PCs yet, but with the hardware and Xbox integration to back it up, it could be the first true plug-and-play Windows handheld for console fans.
