Everyone’s favourite website that they don’t want to admit they visit, Pornhub, has released some rather startling statistics about the search trends of users.
Namely, Overwatch has proven to be among the fastest-growing search terms on the adult video site.
When the game launched in May 2016, the number of searches for “Overwatch” on the site grew by 817%. That’s a hell of a lot of people looking for Overwatch-related adult material.
In the time since then, it’s grown even further, up 833%. Staggering.
“‘Overwatch’ is among the top gaining searches for 18–24 year olds (+833%), probably because they are the ones most likely to be playing (or interested in) the game,” Pornhub said. I’m sure Blizzard is enthused.
There’s more to gather from the report, and this is where it gets, erm, juicy.
Overwatch was the only new search term to make it into the top 20 searches in 2016.
That means that of the top 20 searches for the year, all of them had already been among the most popular. Overwatch came in as the 11th-most searched term.
Further, 53% of console traffic to Pornhub came from PlayStation consoles, compared to 34% on Xbox. That actually reads better/worse for Xbox, seeing as the PS4 has outsold the Xbox One by a margin of almost 2:1.
The poor ol’ PS Vita isn’t even used for personal time: only 1% of traffic to the site came from the handheld.
Interestingly but unsurprisingly, VR is also gaining in popularity, and as the old saying goes, a new technology and medium can’t “make it” until the porn industry gets involved.
With the search term gaining +721% and +832% in the 25-34 and 45-54 year old age groups, respectively, there’s an obvious interest in the technology.
Overwatch‘s inclusion is unsurprising given the nature of the game, diversity of the characters, and size of the fanbase.
As our fellow countryman Junkrat so eloquently puts it: “Fire in the hole!”
